Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai is an OVA adaptation based on the manga of the same name by Ai Yazawa. It came out near the completion of the manga at Ribon's spring festival. Later the OVA was released on VHS on September 21, 1994.

The OVA stars Aya Hisakawa as the voice of Midori and Toshiyuki Morikawa as Akira. Additional voices include, Ryotaro Okiayu as Shuuichi, Akiko Yajima as Yuko, and Toshihiko Seki as Bunta. The ending song of the OVA was performed by Hikaru Nishida.[1]

PlotEdit

IntroductionEdit

The story opens up with the students of class A nominating Midori Saejima for student council at Hijiri Academy as "Angel Saejima" is being drawn in the background. Midori is confident because there praise and walks up to the podium to give her speech. After her speech is over Midori walks to leave but trips on a cord, and exposes to everyone is the audience her underwear.

She runs into Akira Sudou, who tells her to slowly count to three and open the door that leads out to the auditorium. Akira walks onto the stage and as Midori opens the door he makes a loud enough distraction for her to leave.

Midori flashes back to when she first saw Akira on a rainy day. On her way home from school one day, Midori spotted Akira being kind to a small kitten that he affectionately called "Milk." She watched as Akira drove away on his silver motorcycle.

ElectionsEdit

Hiroko Maki congratulates Midori on obtaining the position of vice president on the school's student council. Midori explains how her school works, that it had just opened and freshmen are the only ones currently attending. She goes to the student council room, where she meets Yuko Mamiya who is cold to Midori at first.

Differences from the mangaEdit

  • The beginning happens differently in the manga it opens up with Midori returning from sick leave, while in the anime it opens up with the student council elections.
  • Midori's flashback of Akira and Milk happens before the elections instead of after. She also turns in her art project before the elections in the manga.
  • The characters Yuko Mamiya, Shuuichi Takigawa, and Bunta Kouno were introduced during the elections in the manga.
